The underfloor lathe UGL 80 N is a CNC double-saddle special-purpose lathe, designed for reprofilling of wheels, which are used in rail vehicles. Its main application is reconditioning of wheel profiles of light rail vehicles (trams, metro vehicles, etc.) without dismantling of wheelsets from the vehicles. It enables to shorten radically the shutdown time of vehicles and thereby increases efficiency of their exploitation.
Usage of additional special equipment makes possible reconditioning of frictional surfaces of brake discs.
The machine is installed on a pit-type foundation, below traffic rails, which ensures its operation in a roll-through system. Shunting of vehicles on the rails above the machine tool is possible when the lathe is switched off.
The basic body system of the machine tool consists of two columns and a connecting them cross-rail, on which saddles are seated. They are made as uniform castings from cast iron. Such a structure guarantees high geometrical stability of the machine tool and provides better vibration dumping compared with welded structures.
For clamping of a wheelset in its axis of rotation, there are used two tailstocks with quills provided with rotary centres (adaptation for machining in holding down pads is optional). Two driving rollers drive each wheel of the machined wheelset. Each roller has an individual drive unit and lifting mechanism with flexible pressure against the wheels of the wheelset.
Thanks to application of a modern CNC system and equipment for automatic measurement of the machined wheelsets, machining is economical, efficient and accurate. Universal equipment and wide range of programming possibilities guarantee easy switching to atypical profiles of wheelsets without necessity of introducing changes in the equipment of the machine.
The machine tool is controlled through a CNC system. The main control panel of the machine includes also a CNC panel, which is mounted on the extension arm under the rails of the machine tool. It can be set in any position, which is convenient for operators. On the machine tool, there are also installed auxiliary control panels, used for operating of wheelset clamping devices.
The machine tool can be operated by one operator only. Successive stages of the technological process are related to adequate text-graphics images, which are displayed on the screen of the control desk. The control system is also equipped with a diagnostics of the lathe’s operating condition. It informs about occurring disturbances in functioning of the machine tool and procedures of their elimination.
The machine tool can be additionally provide among others with equipment for facing of brake discs, system of shunting and positioning of a vehicle (a shunter with its own drive, rope system), chip crusher, dust and fume extraction system, lifting device for machining of mechanically coupled wheelsets, etc.
